The pitch coaching I received from Heyishi Zhang emphasized the importance of bringing out the authenticity at the heart of both my project and my own personality as a pitcher.

She diligently helped me get to the bottom of why my story matters to who I am pitching and wasn’t afraid to pose tough questions to make my creative material as compelling as possible. She encouraged me to plan out every detail of my presentation to maximize clarity and concision, tightly pace each beat in the argument, and above all to rehearse until we were off-script. I learned from her that a successful pitch is one where it’s clear the creatives are having fun with it and don’t take themselves so seriously that their idea falls flat emotionally. She taught me the value of pitching with confidence and conveying the essence of my content through my personality.

In the end, her advice took us from nervous presenters to the pitch team who made our audience laugh and sold them on our idea through our style and precise yet easy-going delivery, which I think ended up being the most important factors in our winning presentation.

Heyishi’s experience as a director was immensely helpful when preparing for my live pitch at Reel Asian’s pitch competition. Me and my creative partner, of whom neither had ever pitched to a live audience, received many hours of personal coaching both in-person and online.

Heyishi gave us good advice on the small things, like posture and pronunciation, as well as the bigger picture stuff. She identified our individual strengths and weaknesses, and gave us clear goals to address as homework. At one point, she worked with me in rewriting the entire pitch from the ground up, a decision that paid off spectacularly when we won the competition. The audience and the jurors loved our pitch and our performed personalities, never suspecting that underneath it all we were having massive imposter syndrome. Thanks Heyishi!

Heyishi is an incredible pitch coach! She worked closely with my creative partner and I, guiding us—two people with no prior experience in live pitching—to become the winning team at Reel Asian Film Festival’s pitch competition. She reworked the pitch script, making it clearer, more compelling, and aligned with the personalities we wanted to present on the pitch stage.

Heyishi also played a huge role in refining our performance, by providing detailed feedback on line delivery and body language. Her support helped ease my performance anxiety, giving me the confidence to stand tall on that stage and truly pitch my heart out. Thanks to her guidance, we received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from both the jury and the audience and secured that prize money. Hire her!
